A Wide Brown Land - Capertee Valley by

When we were in Primary School we all knew the words to “My Country” by Dorothea Mackellar (1885 – 1968) The most famous verse is -
“I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me!”
My Country

Taken in the Capertee Valley west of the ranges in NSW Australia

Glorious colours……..coming from Ireland we would seldom see something like this……thanks for sharing this!!

  • Thanks very much Fara. This was taken before the recent rains. It would be quite green now, but not as green as Ireland methinks. :))

Wonderful, Ian. To think the early settlers thought this was ugly… crazy Poms! (no offence to any current Poms… only those ones!!) The strip of light on the hill in the mid-ground is wonderful :)

  • What a lovely comment Mieke, thanks !! I like that strip too and the lone tree on the left :))
