Artist's Description

Looking straight up inside the Boiler House. You get and idea of the height of this building when you compare the size of the stairs in the lower part of the image.

White Bay Power Station at Rozelle, in Sydney’s inner west, was the longest serving of the city’s five metropolitan power stations. Construction began in 1913, and went through a number of expansions before the station was decommissioned in 1983.

Because of its significant industrial heritage, the now silent White Bay Power Station is listed on the NSW State Heritage Register and National Trust Register.

Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authotity bought the power station in 2000, and is committed to finding a sustainable, new use for the building, while retaining as much of the facility’s industrial fabric and machinery as possible.

Open Day for photographers Sun 22 May 2011.
