Taken just outside Portland NSW Australia
This is a typical country railway crossing and was made all the more photogenic by the thick fog which was starting to burn off as the sun rose.

I love this area, and you have caught the fell perfectly.

  • Thanks Andrew. We now love it too and will be spending more time up there as there is so much beautiful scenery. Also a lot of history with the old mining activity etc.

A terrific shot Ian. Where is Portland exactly?

  • Hi Al, if you head west from Sydney and go to Lithgow, Portland is not far north west from there. It used to be the main supplier of cement for Australia (Portland Cement) and then became Blue Circle Cement and the works which has closed down is owned by Boral. The town has used the catchcry of Portland, the town that built Sydney. The whole area is fascinating and full of history mainly around mining. Thanks for your comment.
