This great desing used to read ’Keep Calm and Obey" as it was a fitting Dalek Rant.
Unfortunately, Shepard Fairey, the owner of the ‘OBEY CLOTHING’ company has threatened me (and anyone using the word ‘obey’ on their t-shirts) with legal action.
By the way, it’s important to note that:
a) Obey is a standard word in the English Language.
b) The Daleks have been saying ‘OBEY!’ for 50 years….
c) Shepard Fairey (owner of OBEY clothing) also credits the movie ‘THEY LIVE’ as a major source of inspiration, sharing a similar logo to his “OBEY” campaign. “They Live was … the basis for my use of the word ‘obey,’” Fairey said in a statement. “The movie has a very strong message about the power of commercialism and the way that people are manipulated by advertising.”
- and now after pinching it from a movie, he wants to OWN the word?
