i have an attraction towards organic and reused so much of my work has been using materials that are available….given or otherwise….like found or collected. at the time i did this piece i lived in taos new mexico. i love to hike so would go into the mountains making alters and finding treasures…reconnecting with the ancestors. the pinon tree grows there which is a dense hard pine which has a lovely smell when burnt. i used to collect it wishing a way to utilize it. i also always loved wax. when my folks would wax the cork floors of our home, i somehow loved the sheen…and the smell which was probably toxic. i never liked plastic looking finishes but since some things need protecting and since a finish actually unifies what is underneath it in some way, i started experimenting with wax and sap finishes. the buffing in the end was so fun. can i say more? thanks for your sincere interest. it is fun to share. i don’t use wax so much since in hawaii. the heat and dirt discouraged me.

This is so beautiful Stephanie- and somehow very peaceful too. It really struck a chord with me today because I just read this by Robert Knapman…time is precious.

Stephanie, your work is so wonderful. I really connect with it on so many levels. I listened to Judy Collins over and over when I was young and where does the time go. I really don’t know. I always try to live today. But back to the piece, your layers are so fascinating. The birds and the trees and the grass and the leaves, all of the earth. My sister and I were also like you in the hunting for natures treasures. We would take earth and stones from one city to the next to weave the earth and bring a sense of healing and connection. I haven’t done that in a very long time. It is so nice to see all of your work. The soft beautiful colors and symbols weave a wise tale of real life. Thank you for all of YOUR wonderful comments, I can’t tell you how honored I am to have them. I only hope to find the consistency in my work that you seem to have. I love this piece very much. Great Job.
