On 12 May 2008, a devastating earthquake measured at 8.0 in magnitude hit the Sichuan province of China, killing over 69,000 people, with over 370,000 injured and 17,000 still missing. Several aftershocks have also occurred, adding to the death toll and injuring thousands.
