I will lend to you for awhile a kitten, God said.
For you to love while he lives, and mourn when he’s dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe two or three.
But will you, ’till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He’ll bring his charms to gladden you and, should his stay be brief
You’ll always have his memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught below I want this kitten to learn.
I’ve looked the whole world over in search of teachers true.
And from the folk that crowds life’s land I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain?
Nor hate me when I come to take my kitten home again?
I fancied that I heard them say ‘Dear Lord Thy Will Be Done’
For all the joys this kitten brings the risk of grief we’ll run.
We’ll shelter him with tenderness, we’ll love him while we may.
And for the happiness we’ve known, forever grateful stay.
But should you call him back much sooner than we planned,
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.
If, by our love we’ve managed your wishes to achieve,
Then in memory of him whom we loved,
please help us while we grieve.
When our cherished kitten departs this world of strife,
Please send yet another needing soul for us to love all his life.

Mikey rescued me 9 years ago from a place no person should ever be…
After losing my son at birth, my arms were so empty and my heart was just so sad. I walked into a nursery that my child would never see and there he was…Mikey was just a baby then but he knew my heart was heavy. All curled up in my little boys bassinet, this white bundle of fur was sleeping. As soon as I picked him up, I felt comforted. He slept with me that night and saw me through the darkness, he has been by my side ever since; he has given me so many reasons to never give up.
I am Thankful for Mikey because he saved my life.

What a majestic creature. He looks so thoughtful, like he is contemplating a very important issue.

Difficult for me to find words to express just how wonderful this image is. It encapsulates so many different emotions and brings back many fond memories of our lovely Blue Burmese who sadly died of a stroke back in 1990.
Great capture Jenny.
David xx
You know David, I have had this photograph in a file for 3 months or better. I loved the shot right away but it wasn’t time to post it yet, difficult to explain but it had to be the right timing. I came across this poem last night and immediately thought of this photo, it was time. Sometimes photographs tell a story on their own and sometimes with the right words, the photo will tell that story with so much more emotion.
I am happy you like it, I am sorry for the loss of your kitty friend, it’s so difficult to lose them. It seems so unfair that cannot have the same life span as we have. I am not sure what I will do when Mikey leaves me, he has become so much a part of who I am…it will be a sad day but it will not be regretful…I have been blessed with his friendship and will never lose sight of that. Thank you David.
