Can't Remember by IAmSam

Okay, I need some help. I can’t remember the title of a book I read and it is really bugging me. All I can remember of it is a man who was nicknamed “Toad” because he could close his eyes by lifting up the bottom eyelid instead of the normal way (lowering the top eyelid). He didn’t talk much. I can remember some kind of fishing trip as well, and that Toad went on it. I (very) vaguely remember that the protagonist was a boy, and that he didn’t like Toad, but somehow in the end that’s resolved. Maybe Toad saves somebody’s life? I don’t know. I read this book in middle school, but that’s all the information I had. If you know this book, or someone/where I can search for the title, please let me know. It’s killing me…

Or maybe I’m just making this up and there really isn’t a book like this?
