Emerald, Victoria, Australia

This elm, chestnut and oak grove are very special to me as I use to play under these trees for hours as a child with my two sisters and neighbourhood friends. We would build cubbies from the branches that had fallen on the ground. We would build these cubbies and build communities under the trees.

Now my mother and sister bring my neice and nephew who are 2 and 6 years old into the forest and build cubbies with them in amongst the trees.

The photo was taken right on dusk as the sun was setting. I was madly racing around trying to light all the candles before it became to dark to see what i was doing.

Two years ago my grandfather died and we buried his ashes amongst the trees so that they could go back to nature as all life comes from the Earth. He loved the trees just as much as I did and so do the childern of today.

On a regular basis some child is building or playing in amongst the trees.

My sister and brother in law used this photo on the front of their wedding invitation.

This work has been featured in The Dandenongs Group.

This photo was taken in Emerald Lake Park, this park is run bu Cardinia Shire and was given to the people of Emerald and it is for all Victorians and Australian’s and oversea visit to come and enjoy.

Gorgeous Karin. I was thinking how would a circle further off in the distance look – like a fairy gathering? The glow is beautiful with the contrasting leaves and sky.
I’ve noticed also how beautiful gum trees like lemon scenteds and ghosts look when lit from underneath – spectacular.

  • Karin Mai replied

    Thank you earthangel yes amazing.
