If this is a small zoo, it probably needs help to grow. Our zoo here in Tucson started out small and had cages we didn’t like, we are expanding slowly but we are getting there. Thanks to the citizens of Tucson, and our Zoological society (which is a very good one.) In fact we have received a national award on our education building. It is green friendly, built alot from recycled items and ecology friendly materials.
Zoos today are getting better than in years past. Recently I was at the San Diego Zoo and they have a huge redesigned and building project going on.
If you do not like this zoo so much why don’t you check in and see what their plans are. Maybe you can help. Join the zoological society, get active in change.
My son is the events manager for our zoological zociety and he plans events that can bring in money for expansion and Upkeep. The city and county budget money for it’s upkeep also. It has now become a very good tourist attraction and local family fun place. I support our zoo by being a yearly member. The zoo membership is growing each year and in the last two years has almost tripled in size.
    Keep taking great pictures.
    P. S. Try offering this picture to them for sale as cards, postcards, etc. it could help them raise money. Just an idea.

Great shot!!! Dispite how much we love looking at animals like this and all, it is sad to see an animal with this expression. I recently visited a traveling zoo and it was sad that those animals were in tiny cages with barely enough room to move around. There were 2 adult tigers, one white, and a black panther, and an assortment of other animals. I think the saddest part was the baby tiger that was 10 weeks old. They were allowing pictures to be taken with him for $10 each. He was so exhausted that he constantly cried and at times he was falling asleep on peoples laps. Anyhow, great capture!

How stressed must an animal feel..when he cant forage for himself..and he awaits. food..wondering whether its coming..the control we have over them is significant..it means life itself..this image really brings that to the fore..very emotive..and powerful shot Cheri..i can see why you had to post it..well done.

The great thing about your art Cheri, is your empathy for the animals you capture. Although seeing this critter behind bars is distressing, it raises the awareness of the public. This in turn pressures zoos and parks to provide better environments for captive specimens. your photography is astounding and that inspires people into action, whether to improve their own skills or think about the subjects you capture. Love your work.

“A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense, and is, thereby, a true expression of what one feels about life in its entirety.”  ~Ansel Adams
