Craigs Hut
Those that know me well know that i was shattered when Craig’s hut burnt down in the 2006/2007 bush fires. I have loved “The Man from Snowy River” since i was a little girl and it had always been a dream of mine to one day see Craig’s hut in the flesh… then it was ravished by fire last year… well they have rebuilt it and thanks to our wonderful friend whom we stay with in Bonnie Doon, he took me and my family up there, knowing how much it would mean to me…
I apologise now as i have about 70 odd photos from here and i am sure that a good number will end up on the Bub!
This really was a dream come true, silly to some maybe, but for me a special moment i will never forget. I will be returning very soon as I have fallen in love with it up there…

Glad you’ve found a happy place.
Love the composition with the fence and the sky is very moody and dramatic. The overall tones and feel of the shot are just quality

This is fantastic Sam.Love what you have done here. I love it up that way. I was lucky enough to see it before the fires but didnt have a sky like this.I was on the mountain (Mt Cobbler) just to the right of the roof on Saturday chasing a storm.

I must admit that I did shed a few private tears when I heard the tragic news. I was in NE Victoria over Xmas and asked if the hut would be re-built but couldn’t get a answer either way.
Thanks for bringing this great info to our attention.

Hi Peter,
There has been some scandal so to speak with the rebuild as Geoff burrows the Creator of the Movie and Leslie Binns the Builder of the original set hut, were not consulted on the current build… The council has since made an apology and they have now been consulted. The hut is still not 100% complete as they wer enot going to re bark the roof at the request or DSE, but apprently there has been threat of litigation if it is not rebuilt to original sepcs… hence it not being complete yet!
But time will tell what will happen…
xx Sam

Thanks Sam for keeping us up-to-date with what is happening up there. I was lucky enough to photograph it at dawn. It is a very special (and unforgettable) place. Yours is the first I’ve seen since the rebuild, and what a fine job you have made of it – a masterpiece.
