The Eulogy of Drugs & Fame (poem)

Write my name in the eulogy of drugs,
was it the drugs or our thoughts
that fucked us up?
Looking for glory on the road of
poetry, Rock n Roll & bags of weed,
hoping to one day write “got famous”
on my dole sheet,

I’ll take the kind of fame
you find on the road, running from the police,
I’ll take everything I can keep,
I’ll be the outcast vile,
the media circus freak,
my eyes starry & teary
as my face goes weak,
my mind moves to twist me
into this freak machine,
caged between an opinion & a screen,

Don’t let this handsome face fool you,
I have an ugly mind,
that hides behind sunglasses covered eyes,
& that lit up cigarette smile,
where truthful words hide for a while,
until I can scream
or find a dream
where I watch them dying,
then I can wake up & carry on lying,

On with the weed, the hippy music,
the sex, the dying at 27,
with no god just drugs
to go to for a temporary version of heaven,
lust tattooed on my chest
where my heart used to be,
you ask “what happened to you?”
life got cruel
so I got mean,
this apathetic loser that stands before you…
…that’s just me,

This life cost me grief,
but I just want to be free,
imagery of lust tattooed
where my heart used to be,
smoke replaces the words I used to speak,
bitter poetry & benevolent weed,
that’s just me,
when I’m put where I need to be,
