Spectacular Peter – well timed. I especially love your composition – the way the pier draws you into the picture, the mauve tones and lighting on the horizon are great contrasts too. I don’t think you were lucky! This looks like a well thought out shot to me!
Peter Redmond replied 28 days ago
I did a few back flips when I see this on the back of the camera, it was luck though, for every good one I got, I missed some absolute beauties!
Thanks :-)

A M A Z I N G ! I love lightning shots, but this takes the cake. The arm and hand in the clouds is chilling, in a good way. Looks like you had some help in where to aim your camera, even if you didn’t know it while taking the pic! So very cool.
Peter Redmond replied 27 days ago
Thanks Micci, appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment, cheers.

Spectacular work, Peter. I was watching the storm brewing, standing on the beach, and then suddenly the torrential rain hit – I made it back to the car soaked to the bone, with some very wet camera gear, but no lightning photos for me :( Great work!
Tim
Peter Redmond replied 27 days ago
Hi Tim, where I was standing was in front of the oncoming storm, so for about 20 minutes, I was nice and dry, then the wind picked up, and it bucketed down with rain! So the tripod and camera still attached were put in the back seat of the car, I didn’t want to leave, still wanted to get some photos, but it was to wet and would not stop.
Puggs 27 days ago
Hey Peter, so cool in the HeraldSun
Peter Redmond replied 27 days ago
Thanks Puggs, a journalist rang me earlier and asked me a few questions, it should be in tomorrows Sun :-)

An awesome storm and brilliantly captured. I was watching it over the bluff at Ocean Grove (without a camera!).
Peter Redmond replied 26 days ago
I seen the lightning over Geelong, then rushed home to get a camera, thankfully it was still sending bolts down by the time I got to the location! :-)

Mark Elshout 26 days ago
Wow. I just read about it going in the Herald Sun. That is quite an honour! I was in Melbourne and the cloud cover made the lightening all sheet and not bolt. A little disappointing. Congrats on the newspaper feature!

At such a HIGH ISO how do you keep from getting the noise in the photo. It is a great shot!!! Professional!
Peter Redmond replied 26 days ago
Hi Charlene, the only way I can asnwer the ISO question, it’s the camera! The canon 1DsMKIII is a fantastic camera, but I would not consider 640 ISO all that high. Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate it.
