Blue Train

The midnight rain follows the train all the way to New Orleans
In the valley of desolate dreams
There’s work to be done but the wind is annoying
Black coffee too strong integrated with cream
Katerina ain’t awake to hear my screams

Dark passengers all take aim, in single file they come and go
Selling tired eyes and borrowed names, taken from Cannery Row

Past the Isle of Dogs unending ages run
Blackbird’s song grows faint
The rose of forgetfulness is catalogued
Mona Lisa whispers to herself in a monologue
She has a fear of flying
But she don’t mind dying
Says she was once a saint
Man on the country music station plays soft and low
The silver saxaphone still says I should refuse you
Finally I eat the document, the one thing you forbade
Rolling thunder through the yellow fog, the grinding wheels fade

Dark passengers all take aim, in single file they come and go
Selling tired eyes and borrowed names, taken from Cannery Row

The midnight rain follows the train down to New Orleans
In the valley of desolate dreams
There’s work to be done but the wind is annoying
Black coffee too strong, integrated with cream
Katerina ain’t awake to hear my screams
