Iron Man .... an Orphan Work????? by Harry Murray

I havn’t been here for a bit but I couldn’t resist sharing this …

I saw a very interesting movie yesterday and maybe few noticed the message but my receptors were on.

Iron Man is great and Stan Lee has a cameo in it. Talk about a glitzy flic …. WOW … beautiful effects of every kind. I WANT AN IRON MAN SUIT! Oh and I want Tony Starks Malibu Beach House too. I never saw so many effects and animation groups in the credtis. Fun movie to see with a great indictment of the Military-Industrial Complex in real Marvel Comics tradition. Simplistic with no punches pulled … good guy versus bad guy … David and Goliath kinda thing. But right at the peak of the final battle when all seems lost for our classically flawed and somewhat tormented hero …

they manage to slip in a direct shot at the Orphan Works Act!

It was then I finally saw the subtext of the entire movie … Uncrupulous leaches making money off the creations of a slightly warped, but truely creative and rather naive genius.

On one level the entire story was about ownership of your creatations … including the dangers and responsibilities that come along with it.

Bravo Iron Man, Marvel Comics, Paramount … and of course Stan Lee
