You’ll return to my garden, my fig tree:
In the high trellises of flowers,
birdlike your soul, the hive
of angelic waxes and labours.
You’ll return to the enamoured farm-hands’
ploughshares’ lullaby.
You’ll brighten the shadow of my brow,
and your girl and the bees will go along,
on both sides, arguing over your blood.
(Miguel Hernandez)

I already commented elsewhere, but I have to say again, I really like how you are treating these shots with the light. Very beautiful work.
hsien-ku replied
thanks so much dan! it’s slowed down my work because I’m always hanging around waiting for the light to change (and that raises eyebrows when I’m in cemeteries!). but even very faint light rays can be enhanced later by fiddling about with the levels in photoshop (is that cheating? :) very sweet of you to be so encouraging!

To your reply above: Why is it cheating? I have no problem with people editing a shot, provided its done well, and enhances the shot. It allows you to put your stamp on work. Now I can see its your shot just from a thumbnail. For me its not if you use an external editor, its how you use it, and IMO you are doing it really well.
hsien-ku replied
thanks Dan – you’re a wonderful man and a great RB friend!
For me the end always justifies the means in photography. This often offends purists but I don’t think a bad photo is improved by the fact that it was created in a darkroom. . .

the digital photography has brought along a new era of expression. There have always been purists that get offended by new ways of self expression and try to hit with the great hammer, but they always falter cos art is above prejudices and looks beyond established techniques. Your art is full of feeling, isn’t that what art means?
hsien-ku replied
thank you so much natalia! i am very encouraged by your words. and i remember very well this same phenomena happening when CDs first began to overtake vinyl records. and i think you are right when you suggest that art manifests through whatever medium is available – and that art is more important than it’s medium. xxx
Selkie
How on earth could i have missed this, Hsien-Ku? This is just wonderful.

You have quoted one of my all time favorite poets – I am stunned and breathless with wonder that you know his work: Miguel Hernandez. I feel a sudden and deep connection to you because of this…. I am profoundly moved by your image, paired together with MH’s lovely words….
hsien-ku replied
oh! wow – anne – you love hernandez too! he is one of my favourite poets. so full of understanding and deep emotion at a time when the world of poetry was more concerned with structure and intellect. how nice to have this shared thing!
