H-K102

In the west the falling light still glows,
and the clustered housetops glitter in the sun,
but here Death is already chalking the doors with crosses,
and calling the ravens, and the ravens are flying in.

Beautiful! You manage to make there so so moving with the dof and light – and the little bird on her hands is just the perfect touch…

  • hsien-ku replied

thanks very much k – i took the last few photos within the space of about 30 mins in the same place (Friedhof III in Berlin). The light was being especially kind to mourners that afternoon so I didn’t have to do very much post-production (nice for a change!). i knew that you would understand this image! so lovely to have you as a rb friend.

Another beautifully sorrowful image….. I just love your use of birds in your images….

  • hsien-ku replied

thanks Rosemary! that’s very kind of you. The composer Messiaen thought that birds were the intermediaries between humans and angels – I’ve never been able to see them any other way . . .

wow. you excel even yourself with this one, h-k! where do you live that has such amazing statues in it?

  • hsien-ku replied

thankyou nadine! the last few photos were taken in a little cemetery in berlin called ‘friedhof III’. I was there to visit the grave of the composer ferruccio busoni (sort of my musical grandfather in that he was the teacher of my teacher). if you visit me in germany i can give you the cemetery tour of the city :)

Ah, I’ve always wondered what you connection with birds was…... for me they’re more of a representation of human spirit….... something that I see in all of your work :)

  • hsien-ku replied

you’re lovely Rosemary! and i understand what you’re saying about birds representing the human spirit – i can see that too. and for me, birds wear their characters so clearly on their faces – so much less enigmatic than footed animals…
