The old ones, covered with rust, groaned:
” . . . return to the wheel, O breath of mine!
go and with your heavy step dance round the
planets throughout the cavernous night.
My children have no thoughts!
My beautiful children have empty heads.
Life is easy but they live no longer . . . “
and the old ones died between the mountain’s teeth,
their faces veined its marble,
under the flint slept those who were buried
deeper than the depths of their bones.

(poem by René Daumal, texture by playingwithbrushes)

Wonderful sense of serenity… yet the words seem to be leading me to more of a sense of ‘ending’...?
Many many depths again my friend :)))

    thankyou K! :)
I wanted to make something sleep-serene (not awake-serene). the sleeper holds up her books of words and, in place of living flowers, she has arranged a dried, seedless skeleton in an oil-less lamp. she has mistaken a map for a country, poor dear :)

Wow sensational!!! Curious about the border is it a layer of an old photograph? Wonderful effect…instant fav!

  • hsien-ku replied

    Hi LisaR! thanks!
the texture (including border) is from a flickr photographer named playingwithbrushes. I believe it’s a scanned old photograph.

Your quote is profound!! This is a sensational image Hsien-ku. I love the beautiful books, your choice of dried flower stem appearing as a tree emerging from the beautiful vessel.. the deep vignette effect is wonderful. Overall it is well balanced and deeply spiritual. It is a beautiful work of photographic art and a creative still life.

Congratulations on your feature in Still Life ~ Photography and Paintings

  • hsien-ku replied

thankyou Sharon – that means a lot to me. This was one of my first ‘set-up’ still-life photos, something that I’d like to do more of. It was very kind of you to feature this in your group too – I really appreciate the encouragement!
