oh no – it wasn’t because the bird was captured – it looks quite happy and safe. It’s the beautiful light on the feathers and those long sensual fingers, and then the words you put with it reminding us of the transcience even of this remarkable beauty – sorry, have to go have another cry!

thanks Anne! the design on the ring is the Hindu OM symbol and the background behind the hand and bird is my fern-garden where the shot was taken (very blurry and grainy!)

thankyou catherine. you know it’s very strange but until I took up photography I hadn’t realised how much I was obsessed with both birds and, also, the ocean. after uploading a hundred or more images I suddenly noticed with a start that I seem to have photographed all these birds without even thinking about it! that’s one of the things I love about photography – it’s not just a window through which I can see the world, I can also see myself!
I love your paintings for their vibrancy and freedom (symbolised perhaps by the recurrent mermaids tails). Now that you’ve told me about the birds I’ll have to seek them out!
