Artist's Description

This is a mixed media piece combining acrylics, pen and ink and scratch line technique used in woodblocks. Genuine Hawaiian names are unisex. Their meanings are often symbolic. Old Hawaiians coined a new name for each child, with careful thought of its meaning. Children could be named after relatives, but names were not copied from other families. The word “Joy” appeared in her lei by perhaps divine intervention. Voila! Joy Girl.
