Wizard Island - Crater Lake National Park by

Crater Lake National Park

Crater Lake partially fills a type of volcanic depression called a caldera that was formed by the collapse of a 12,000 ft (3,700 m) volcano known as Mount Mazama during an enormous eruption 7,700 years ago. Wizard Island is a volcanic cinder cone at the west end of the Lake. Just above the island and to the right is Llao Rock (Elevation: 8,049 feet) and a little more to the right, way off in the distance is another volcanic peak; Mount Thielsen (Elevation: 9,184 feet)
