Nestled among the clothing racks in the Zippo Visitors Center in Bradford, Pennsylvania USA, one can find the 1947 Zippo Car when it is not on display at an event. The car has an interesting history.
The original car, built on a 1947 Chrysler Saratoga 2 passenger Coupe was an enormously heavy vehicle. After many problems with blown tires the car was sent to Pittsburgh in the 1950’s for modifications which resulted in an overheight vehicle. The vehicle was apparently forgotten and left in Pittsburgh until someone went looking for it but it had vanished. After several unsuccessful attempts to locate it a final attempt was made in 1995. Unable to locate the original, Zippo purchased another 1947 Saratoga Coupe and commissioned a new replica. this replica now is housed at the Visitor Center on Congress Street.
