The Blessing of the Hunt

A view of the Paddock area of the Saint James Episcopal Church in Monkton, Maryland, USA, on the Annual Thanksgiving Day Blessing of the Hunt. I grew up attending the event as a spectator as my father and older sister were into Fox Hunting, Steeple Chasing and Jousting. As an adult I had not been to the annual event in over 40 years. This particular year I had a Home Hospital Student who was riding in the the Hunt,

Oh wow!! Stunning!! Ran across a hunt here in South Australia by accident some years back. I dont think chasing a real fox is legal nowdays … I believe a scent has to be put down.

Thank you. Yes they do hunt the real fox but they never kill it. The fox lives to run another day. The fox is honored for it’s sportsmanship. Foxes are plentiful in this area and their major predator is the automobile. Or, as my vet says,”The Great Equalizer”. ...Hope

Seems like a sensible solution. I know what your vet means!! It is very easy to get “romantic” about our friend Mr Fox. But just recently my sister and bro-in-law’s chooks were cruelly raided … and I have lived on a farm for a time. Thanks for getting back to me!

    Ditto that. ...Hope
