This lonesome stag, perched on top of a gateway, is to us, a landmark is so many ways. Years’ ago, we would pass it, as a family going to the coast for a day out; it would tell us that we were halfway to the seaside. We also often passed it on our route to Cornwall, where we holidayed, when our son was growing up; on the outward journey, it would tell us that we were on our way, and on the homeward journey, that we didn’t have too far to go, before we would be back in the comfort of our lovely home. Now my wife and I pass it on our way to visit our grownup son, (now living in Exeter), reminding us of all those yesterdays which gives us, a warm glow in our hearts. To some it is just a stag on a gateway from a past era; to us it is very special.
