Peche Merle

From the very start
If even that time
Could be placed

The auroch
Spotted horse
Over top
A red ochre fish

Did they see
The leavings
Of the cave bear
Already extinct?

Who held the lamp?
Who held up
The artist
On the ledge?
Who handed them
The pigments
Spit there on the wall?

I do not really wonder why
Just looking
Somehow answers
The question why

The question what
Does intrigue

But the thing astonishing
Is that we could draw
Beautifully like that
From the very start

Great! I think we are driven to express. I always wonder who tested the food first. Not the best job, but someone had to do it. And now we know… do NOT eat THOSE berries. : D

  • Ha! I call that the bleu cheese syndrome. Let’s say you lost a bota bag full of milk in the woods. Several weeks later you find. You’ve been lost for days and are REALLY hungry. You cut the bota bag open and the milk is curdled and covered with blue mold. Would you taste it?? Well, someone did and I’m glad they did but I don’t think I would have had the fortitude to try it.

Indeed, a mystery. A good post, reminds us that we really know nothing….if we’re honest about it :-))

  • True! As I get older I realize how little I know, have ever known. Thanks!

ha ha ha… true. We made sour cream at work once. Someone left some creamer in a cup in the back of the fridge for… uh… a couple of months! I knew because it was in a Christmas cup. When I found it… it smelled like yummy sour cream. Didn’t smell rotten at all. ha ha… I promptly dumped it in the garbage which was difficult because I LOVE sour cream.
