I took this with a wide angle lens of the Cape River crossing along the Gregory Development Road. This river only flows during the ‘wet season’ when heavy rains from the Gulf of Carpenteria make their way down to central Queensland and flood the crossing making the road impassable. During the rest of the year the exposed sandy river bottom with its gum trees and willows makes for a shady spot to rest awhile during the long lonely road trip between Charters Towers and Emerald. During the three hour journey I only saw two road trains and one happened along just after I took this! Nothing like a 60 metre long ‘big rig’ hurtling down the road straight for you. Too bad I didn’t get a pic of that!! :)

What a difference a season makes, not so lonely now that you’ve taken us with you ….... it looks dry as a bone …....... judging by the tyre tracks most people drive in the middle of the road and someone has been offroad to the right …. thanks for a window into your world Holly ….......... :))
