Meadow Grasshopper by

Last summer I was visiting a conservation park with a lake and very few people. The day was very hot and everywhere were the sounds of birds, crickets and squirrels…..and grasshoppers were very busy hopping.

My friend Pat a.k.a. eyestrange (she has a stunning gallery here on Redbubble) has a remarkable way with insect photography and it’s her influence that made me look at these tiny creatures quite differently than I had before. I settled into some tall grasses and stayed very still until the little fellows returned. While I was trying to photograph a different bug than this one, I glanced over and saw him watching me. He was kind enough to sit still for about thirty seconds and let me get this picture of him.

    G’day Holly,

Once again you have used the light wondefully with this great exposure of Monsieur Grasshopper.
Good angle of shot, nicely composed and lovely, lovely greens.
Very good use of depth of field in this close-up and great focus combine to show excellent facial detail.
    Lovely work!
(Don’t those greens look stunning with a black matt???!!!)

  • Dennis, thank you so much for your comments and taking the time to do so this way. It’s greatly appreciated. And yes, I do like the way it looks with the black mat! :-)
