This is a typical Ontario farm yet when I saw this very brief moment on New Year’s morning of 2007 it changed into something ‘more’ for me. The morning was actually darkly grey and cold yet for about 90 seconds the light burst through an opening in the clouds and created this scene of light against dark. I was driving past this farm when this magical momet of light happened and I learned two very important lessons: keep an eye on the light and always have the camera ready! For the first of those two lessons, this picture holds a place of significance in my heart. It was at this moment I said “watch the light” to myself for the first time.

On most days when I drive by Kilcurry Farm it’s a quiet and unobstrusive sort of place but for a moment on a New Year’s morning it became something of an extraordinary place to me.
