This was taken on Christmas Day. My husband and I were travelling north to spend the day with family and it was the MOST glorious and clear winter day. The road north is filled with so many wonderful sights and one of my favourite is the immense rocks with trees appearing to grow out of them. To me, these trees looked as if they in the midst of an onstage performance.
Gorgeous Holly. Such a wonderful contrast of textures between the smooth snow, the rocks, the trees and then that dramatic sky. This composition appears, almost magically, that this view was put there just for you to find and capture in this moment…..and share. Yes, I would say Magical!
Oh thank you Carolyn! When I saw this I thought it looked like a giant flower arrangement, if you know what I mean. It just seemed as if it had grown into its own composition. I’m always trying to get shots of those kinds of rocks all along that highway but finding the composition is usually a bit of a conundrum. :-)
Beautiful Holly!!! I can see what you mean about the trees performing on stage like an opening scene to a play. Gorgeous contrasts and textures and the dramatic backdrop of the sky make a for a wonderful image!!!
Thank you so much Kate….it all rather reminded of some kind of chorus line. :-D
I can see exactly how you got the title – not only is this AWESOME but you can see the spotlight effects over the scene – Amazing work
Thank you so much Pat!! I’m really glad you like it…you’re so good with b&w I wondered what you’d think of this.

What did you do? Just pull over on the 400?? hahaha This is sooo beautiful!!
Pretty much Jan! LoL I kept asking my husband to pull over all the way up north that day until he finally had had his fill of waiting for me to trudge through the snow to get some shots. Every time I kept saying “oh look over there….that’s just a photograph waiting to be taken” he’d point out that stopping in the middle of the highway might not be the smartest thing in the world. But nagging seemed to work. :-D (Actually, this isn’t too far from Pointe au Baril so there’s lots of great places to stop.)
outstanding and yes i can see you on the 400 stopped in the middle …..just kidding a fantastic job
Thanks Heather! I’ve actually stopped so many times on the 400 that I’m getting almost comfortable with all those trucks thundering by. There’s just so many gorgeous scenes along there….maybe I need a police escort! LoL

I just love your composition on this, the light and tones of grey are outstanding!
Thank you so much Joanne! I don’t do a lot of b&w ….colour is usually my preference…so it was interesting to work on getting those tones. :-)
