claire de lune

she sat at the piano
with her graceful fingers poised
and the beauty flowed out
into the keys

she would stumble over the arrangement
and she never got past the first few bars
but i could see the desire in her
to play from the heart

and maybe if she had chosen a different life
she would have played
the song
more beautifully
she would have been able to get
through the whole work
and the moon would have
shone down on her

but her smile chose
a different path
she chose to pass
the desire on
and nuture me and all the family
so creatively

now when the moon casts its
light over the keys
at the end of the night
i can see her there
playing just a few bars
of clair de lune
straight from the heart
her masterpiece
of a life well spent
still in the room

    this is lovely, holly.

  • thanks les….this writing came as quite jolt to me, especially hearing the first few bars of clair de lune (as per description), which she (mum) used to play sort of haltingly but with such love…anyway, glad you enjoyed it :)

I love this! Reminds me so much of my mother, who could’ve gone on to learn the piano more fully, but instead became a doctor, though music is her passion. Anyway, this is just so beautiful, definitely a fav for me!

  • i am so pleased you like as your work has that touch of magic to it and am glad i have created some for you-thank you
