This acrylic-on-canvas painting was painted with the use of special fluorescent colours to enhance the feel of a real sunset. The artist Alan Hogan wants his paintings to catch the eye of the passer-by, and he achieves this by using such vivid imagery and striking colours in a lot of his work. He painted this particular sunset from a photograph he took while travelling on a small ferryboat from Aland to Finland.

how beautiful, your art reminds me very much of Seurat, and I love Seurat!!! this image looks so much alive, so great!

  • Thank you Franzi,
It’s one of my own favourites. It’s always difficult to capture the beauty of a real sunset in a painting, but I was very satisfied with myself when I finished this piece. I do like Seurat’s art, it must have been painstaking work for him as he created his masterpieces using even smaller dots of colour. The technique is called Pointillism. The term “Pointillism” was first used with respect to the work of Georges Seurat.
I appreciate your comment. Thanks again.

It’s like pointillism done large. Very effective and modern. It all comes together from a distance. Well done Allan.

  • Thanks Guntis. Some friends have asked me to make my dots smaller, but I prefer to keep them big. The smaller the dots, the closer it becomes to a photograph I reckon. And they’re are so many photographed sunsets around. If you liked this painting, then you might like my ‘Plum Clouds’ painting also. Thanks again for your comment!!
