Dark Morning

my headache was instant upon waking
maybe even part of a dream
which followed me from restless sleep
attached to my brain like a demonic parasite
it makes the coffee bitter
and numbs my face
which feels like melting wax
and is incapable of even a semblance of expression
I sit quite still and wait for the pills
(from the shattered child-proof bottle)
to work their poison on the intruder
drying its pulsing mass to a husk
that the dawn’s fresh air can blow
to the back of my mind
and allow my shuttered eyes
to open in the filtered sunlight of my kitchen
eventually
