President Obama has been briefed regarding the shooting, the Pentagon is involved – it’s not looking good.
Emergency sirens have been activated in the area.
My brothers and my husband were all stationed at Fort Hood for a period of time during their military service. I think that Fort Hood is the largest military installation in the world – not sure.

Yeah I just saw that…......12 to 15 injured and they aren’t sure if there were multiple gun men or not. So sad

Senator Hutchinson® Texas says an Army General on the base informed her that there are 30 wounded, and whether the shooters are military personnel or not.

KCEN has confirmed a mass shooting on Fort Hood in Killeen.
There are now reports of a third shooter who has opened fire on Fort Hood. One policeman is down.
So far there are 7 people reported dead, and 20 wounded.
There are also reports of two different crime scenes: the SPC and Howve Theater on Battalion Ave.
One person is in custody.

Yes it must have been a planned assault. One lone shooter – a mentally ill person on a rampage after a breakdown perhaps. Two or more – a planned event.

This is simply shocking! The Governor (who by the way called for succession from the Union recently) gave a statement and he ordered flags at half staff. I hope this is truly over. One shooter dead and two in custody, all U.S. Army personnel. Incredible and unbelievable- insane.

honey when the armed forces turn on the population … you have a problem right at the core of the country and all it stands for… this is another step into the darkness of anarchy I think… The Sydney Morning Herald is a great paper so keep checking in for another perspective on this as it unfolds….

I just heard about this, I’m out of the country right now, but I live in Austin, not too far south of Fort Hood. We will have to wait for more facts before speculating, but it sounds like it was a plan. This isn’t the type thing that will be solved with gun laws or being appalled or even an eye for an eye. The world needs a dose of sanity

I’m with you on the reason and justice friend. There is so much screaming and shouting and freaking out about communism/socialism/facism/whateverisms that people have lost site of what is important – caring about each other, reason, respect, old fashioned decency.

@ Julie: I think it’s unfair to generalize in situations like this. It only causes more hysteria. The armed forces have not turned on the population. An army psychiatrist lost it. Psychiatrists have the highest suicide rate of any profession in this country. Death by shooting unfortunately is another form of suicide. It’s like pointing a gun at a cop. It’s so very, very sad he had to take others with him.
My son has been in the army for 25 years and for him and other brave men like him who have chosen to watch over the rest of our country I resent your statement: “Honey when the armed forces turn on the population….. you have a problem.” It’s statements like this that create more pain and confusion.

Focus should be on how to prevent these incidents and how to reduce the stress on these soldiers.
With a country divided on the issue of the Middle East the soldiers are feeling the brunt of this. They are sworn in to protect our country and they must follow orders whether they agree with the situation or not. They get to the Middle East and Congress doesn’t appropriate the money they need to buy the guns, ammunition, protective vests and other clothing that they need to survive, and let’s not even get into the issue of a “safe” helicopter. They’re in a catch-22 situation and we’ve never had an army under this must stress. .

I have been to a live show of Larry King once. He did a live show in Louisville Kentucky when President Bill Clinton was campaigning. I got to meet the lot of them – kinda cool, but Larry King is not a good looking guy in person.

Here in Australia , you can refuse to be posted overseas in the military; which seems a good idea..
