Imagine this is all you have in your cupboard, and your child asks, “what’s for supper?” Millions of Americans struggle each day to feed their children.

Hunger In America Rises By 43 Percent Over Last 5 Years
The USDA report, Household Food Security in the United States, 2004, says that 38.2 million Americans live in households that suffer directly from hunger and food insecurity, including nearly 14 million children. That figure is up from 31 million Americans in 1999.
Dr. J. Larry Brown, an authority on hunger, stated the following:
“With this astonishing level of food deprivation in America,” Brown concluded, “we need President Bush to step up to the plate. If he now asks Congress to cut federal food programs, hunger will increase even further. We need the moral leadership to stem this crisis.”
100% of the proceeds from the sales of cards and small prints will be donated to Williams Emergency Housing, a homeless shelter in my local community.
This is definitely a must read for every American.

I think it so stupid that countries such as Canada and the USA have such a serious problem with poverty and homelessness when they are such affluent countries! There’s really no excuse for it. Our governments seriously need to get their priorities straightened out. They need to stop the warmongering stupidity and concentrate on helping the people who pay the taxes and elect them. This is a great photo and really brings forth the message and the plight of those in need! great work Xenia!

Well, long before Bush was Prez..this was the case. I can’t stand politics,
(after the crap that I’ve been through..who can blame me!) so I generally
don’t even talk about political this and that, but I know that I went through
a lottttt of times like these when I was a kid, when Carter was president!
Didn’t matter who the president was, there were still hard times.
But I will say, that you have a talent for striking the rawest TRUEST nerve
with people with your work! And that’s what people remember. Because you
make them feel! That means alot to me. I reeeeeally like what you’re made of. ;)

Birgitta, you are absolutely right, the poor we will have with us always (paraphrasing Jesus of Nazareth – gotta give credit or it’s plagarism). And we have always had poor people in this Country and indeed the entire world.
However, my point is this: hunger rose by 43% from 2000 to 2005. The figures for 2007 are provided in the link in this image description.
I am not the only one holding the current administration responsible for this shocking increase in hunger in the land of plenty (see image description for more links and quote from Dr. J. Larry Brown, director of the Center on Hunger and Poverty at Brandeis University).
The food pantries and soup kitchens can barely meet the needs in their respective communities. Painful and shocking to me that children in this Country do not have enough food to eat.
