A Taunton, Massachusetts woman killed herself when she learned that the bank was going to foreclose her home loan. She left a note to her family to use her life insurance to pay off their loan. This happened in July 2008. As the housing mortgage crisis worsens and more people lose their jobs, I fear stories like this may become all too frequent on the evening news.

Hi Helen, What a tragic reality you have spotlighted. ( And Very well indeed )
I watched, as we all did, when the great Spirit took 250,000 people with a single wave last year in that staggering, devestating Tsunami. Seems that Great Spirit does in one day with nature what men in suits will do over time. So sad and in the land of freedom and opportunity?

    Ciao Steve.( ’ – I

Such a sad state of affairs that forces one to take their own life due to things like this!! You did a Wonderful job in portraying this.. and bringing it to our attention!! Very Creative.. and thanks for the story behind it. I hope that.. this crisis is over soon.. there are too many in the same situation.. barely hanging on by a thread.. :o(

    Stunning work, Helen.

We have been warned.. and now it’s happening. So that’s why they needed a friendly-bro-from-the-street-black president, to keep the people happy while they execute their plans..
Isn’t it sick that we all need heaps of money and work until we die just to be able to live? And when we can’t spend anymore, we get recession and the government panic because they need the GST/VAT to raise taxed on? Don’t we see how fucking rotten the system is we help to create?
We need to spend to prevent bad things to happen. Hell, most of us (I recently joined this group) cannot spend anymore.. we simply run out of money.. and now.. we suffer..
    This story is my nightmare.
Since I was a kid I worked hard, studied and still study and willing to go 24/7 but somehow it isn’t enough anymore.
It’s becoming a very dark place..

  • H M Bascom replied

Money is a religion, greed its creed, and the bankers are the priests who bless us with high interest loans. The Chairman of the Federal Reserve is the head of the Church of Mammon, and they bleed us for every cent of interest they can take until we die.

That poor woman must have really been at her wits end , what a horrible situation , She must have been so desperate to take such extreme measures . How very sad ,

Helen, One picture…10,000 words…how very sad….people are losing their homes and the
homeless rate is spiraling….the rich get richer…the middle class are now lower middle class
and the lower middle class are now classified as poor…what a sick state of affairs….but I
believe that President Elect Obama will help and his vision will be fulfilled…Love & Hugs,

This isa picture of The United Kingdom too. We ARE in a recession whether our politicians say we are or not. Job losses and foreclosures are happening despite pleas to hold fire. We have bailed our overfed overstuffed greedy fat cat bankers out ahead of offering help to the lower paid workers so they can keep a roof over their families heads. Pah.

Powerful work Helen! Yes, I truly hope with the election of Obama changes will come. But I fear it won’t be soon enough for many (possibly me included) and not far-reaching enough. After all, though the President is a powerful person, it’s the rest of the politicians who really make policy.
Hope and pray is my mantra…..............

Very emotional image Helen..powerful and heartbreaking…....so many of us are just a paycheck away from being homeless…..and this poor woman felt so much anguish and pain to end it all this way….......so many of can’t afford the insurance either…....it seems like a no win situation!....but I am an optimist and I do believe that there is always room for and the possiblity for change…...now we will see….......one man cannot change the whole country….the whole country has to change with his help…......

  • H M Bascom replied

Right you are Joyce. He can only point the way, we have to be willing to take that first step toward healing our country.

A very sad statement of our society today. Big shots on wall street collecting welfare checks in the millios of dollars and poor folks who are desperately trying to survive suffer even more, while paying the taxes which fund the failure of these companies to conduct theier business in a responsible manner.
