Hookah Smoking Catepillar by

A print I made from my Father’s Alice in Wonderland book.I did this in my Graphic Arts class in High School.I have a whole stack of stationary from doing this.I had to trace, separate, photograph, strip, burn it onto printer plates for a 4 color[AB Dick?]printing press.Don’t remember the #‘s of the printer anymore, besides they’re probably outdated by now, since it’s been 30 years.

I was born in Dayton,Ohio of German parents.I started drawing early, and took art classes in High School. I went on to take Art & Design classes at Sinclair College in Dayton. I also took Photography and Interior Design my 1st year there. I never finished my Associates Degree,as I ended up moving to Indianapolis,Indiana with my parents. I still reside in Indiana in a small town with my Man,and sell my art online here and at http://zazzle.com/hblack6*

My mother liked Alice and so does my wife, but I never took to the books. A few years ago i decided to read alice again and lo and behold I became an Alice fan :) I love this rather sweet rendition of yours.

Beutiful like the old illustrations, Fab work!!

  • But it is a direct copy of an illustration from my Dad’s book[now my sisters-he gave them to her] that I did for my Graphic Arts class. It took some work to do though and came out great.

We would love to see this work in our group ALICE IN WONDERLAND. Please consider joining us :))

  • I just joined the Alice Group. My Father had both Alice books, but this is the only print I did from it.My sister has the books now, since he gave them to her years ago.Besides I don’t have access to all the equipment that required the making of this, like a light table, dark room, plate burner, the actual printer-although I still have the printer plate,an the pages of cut & stripped negatives, etc to make more stationary. But I still have a stack, and the wonders of the internet & digital & Giclee printing have made things a lot easier and cheaper.
