Members What Is This About
SEPTEMBER 20, 2012
Important information for all RB Members

Here’s A Great Link to Better Understand This Pinterest Site:
Pinterest site’s massive repository of RB artwork

SEPTEMBER 20, 2012
Yesterday Redbubble added a new function to the site, they added a “Pin it” button to allow anyone to pin work they find on Redbubble to the now well known and widely derided site known as Pinterest.

Redbubble posted a journal announcing this new function and also pointing out that if people didn’t wish to partake in this they could opt-out by changing their settings to hide the “Pin it” button. Unfortunately the journal was only prominent in the opening page for about twelve hours or so, before another journal replaced it.

I believe that it’s really important for artists to be aware of this, and that’s the reason I’ve posted this journal. While some members will be happy to have their images pinned and re-pinned by anyone, many will not. If they are unaware of this change they won’t be in a position to make that decision.

From Pinterest’s Terms of Service:

“How Pinterest and other users can use your content.
Subject to any applicable account settings you select, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable, worldwide license to use, display, reproduce, re-pin, modify (e.g., re-format), re-arrange, and distribute your User Content on Pinterest for the purposes of operating and providing the Service(s) to you and to our other Users. Nothing in these Terms shall restrict Pinterest’s rights under separate licenses to User Content. Please remember that the Pinterest Service is a public platform, and that other Users may search for, see, use, and/or re-pin any User Content that you make publicly available through the Service.”

Here is the Redbubble journal announcing the change. Please read it and make an informed decision

Please consider favouriting this journal so that more members will be made aware, or feel free to copy it and post it in your own journal.

Thanks for this, Hilary. I didn’t see it and probably wouldn’t have known what it meant. It seems to me, that RB is encouraging and endorsing theft – or am I misunderstanding the pin thing?

  • No, I don’t think you are misunderstanding the pin thing. What I cannot understand is that it is not in the interests of RB to do this, no sell no pay, or are they getting paid from pininterest? I have no idera, but I will try and find out for you all. love and hugs Hilaryxxx

Thank you for posting this. I am not pleases with the pinterest deal at all. At the very least, when RB decided to do this, the opt out could have started as checked so we wouldn’t have work taken without us knowing. Then, if a person wanted to take part, we could have turned the option on. I found three pieces of mine there so far (because I was unaware until last night) so I am not a happy bubbler at the moment. Thanks again for watching out for the artists side. Hugs, Peechez

actually it up to the artists whether they want to use Pinterest or not , many top photographers have no problems with it. What RB should have done was default that everyone had to OPT In

    Me I opted out.

But in saying that anyone wanting to sell their work would be silly to ignore the opportunities of getting their work out there that social media provides. But you have to be careful , I post links to things like Facebook, Google plus etc i never post images unless they are at the lowest resolution Some time back a lot of disgruntle members went to 500px but never checked their terms of service if you are a member of 500px please read your terms of service

As for Pinterest please google and read before OPTING IN
