"rooted firm to bend; The old willow"

My Uncle had a tree such as this
but the old willow shall not weep…
it is by her wisdom she’ll bend
and not break, a death to sleep…
and she has learned this more than
most other trees the wind has tried,
for this very reason, to be able to bend
as the wind assaulted her, she has not died,
young breezes, old winds… she has
braved them all and all to stoic rest…
she has known many trees in stand, at hand,
and to know to bend was found the best.

Under the Old Willow Tree: I’ve added a link here for you Russ. I can see why this image inspired such words. I love willow trees, just the name, Weeping Willows, is poetic and the way they hang, so soft and move in the breeze as if dancing…they are made for poetry. Beautiful writing Russell. :-)

  • Dear Lisa, you are to kind, and I was going to save the favor for another time… guess now and again I might have to ask! The (NERD) wishes to thank you too… my other half!

Yes, the willow has often been a wonderful metaphor, and you’ve done her proud. :)

  • I couldn’t have done her proud if I wasn’t reminded of her… by the picture that aroused me so, by (ctheworld) Arlane, linked above by Lisa, and kindly so!

Excellent writing Russ! truly exceptional, there’s something quite tongue twistery about this piece, I like the immortality you’ve described, in relation to the tree ;)

  • I do greatly appreciate your comment… to the wisdom of a tree, to be able to bend in the winds of life! I thank you Max!

Nicely put, I once read a metaphysical book that spoke of people when they die, choosing to reincarnate as a tree, it was hard at first to get my head around why someone would choose that, but then perhaps it maybe for a constant state of meditation, who knows lol

  • I’m not sure I would want to do that, even if I could, but Thank you for your philosophical offering and kindness in comment!

Ancient and universal wisdom Russ. Still useful and maybe vital to our survival.
