Dancing skeletons in costumes

If you peel back
every single layer of my skin
and expose the scarlet mess
that lies barely beneath
this pale cracking suit,
you would find that I’m no different
than you.
Under your shield;
toughened from years of withstanding
the harshness of life
your heart beats- just as mine
and bleeds just as mine.
Are my bones not as white
as those who have called me worthless?
Or called me perfect?

I gaze at the earth with flawed eyes
and a maelstrom mind
trying to simply love,
as we detach from the torment of life;
your destiny is to die-
but so is mine…

We are all alike.
