i lost myself
in new york.
the buildings grabbed
up through the clouds,
and i clenched your hand from the top
as i died.
i cant shake the feeling
i had in my gut
when i looked in the mirror that night;
before manhattan and st. marks.
if i could live
in one moment it would be then-
we said it felt like
it was straight out of a movie
and we were falling
focused not on the ground
but on sky;
trying to see the stars
in the palms of the spot lights.
running through the subway
but sinking down below the tracks
i called…
but you had gone,
now just an “i miss you already”
on my phone,
and a pen drawn heart
on my wrist.

    It is impossible not to see these this person who set off my own inner dialogue of shooting for the stars and being in the moment to see it then shimmer to a flicker.
    Wonderfully crafted prose Nathan. :)

  • wow. thank you from the bottom of my heart for this. it made my day

    Very youthful. I love New York absolutely although I realize there’s another point you’re getting at. It reminds me of high school when I would draw hearts and other such “JC owns” things on his arms and hands. Great write.

  • yes it was such an amazing night. i’ll take it to my grave, thats for sure. thank you for reading
