I use the effect on a layer then change the opacity and blending mode to suit the effect I want.

Well worth trying the trial version!

Thanks so much for that, I’ll certainly have an investigation (I’m still getting to grips with PSE7 and layers!) I honestly thought this was straight from the camera too!
