This is for my dad who l found sitting in his car on the side of the rd waiting for this lovely old steamer ‘The City Of Melbourne’ to pass through,he was not alone…...... all along the tracks you could see others all coming together for the same reason ,some with camera’s on tripods some with video camera’s and some just waiting to wave as the old girl passed by…...........They all had one thing in common a love for the nostalgic sound and click clack of the big metal beast….........Dad has always had a love for these after working on the railways in his younger years…......... he loves these machines as much as we love him …..........xoxox

    Beautiful photo Trudi. I can understand why he loves them so much. I’m just old enough to fondly remember the black steam trains that worked in the country. I’m sure they were much older than this one. I especially loved the sounds they made. Thanks for the memories.

    haha l am not sure…...his comment above was ‘What can l say Trudi’! but l think he probably does maybe l embarrassed him…he should be thankful though Andrew nearly got run over by it when it was passing under the bridge at Navigators we were’nt expecting it to be travelling quite that fast lol and it would help if he was’nt standing on the tracks as it approached ! Thanks hun surprising how many people there was wizzing up and down the road chasing the things over the last two days !

    Excellent capture Trudi. The nostalgic sound and click clack over the rials but don’t forget that distinctive smell of oil and steam. I used to catch one occasionally to travel home in my younger years. It was the last one of that sort still in use by German Railways. (1963/64) if I remember well.

    Hi Trudi, love what youv’e done to this.. I used to go to high school on one of these and loved it.
    Recently we had the Q150 visit our town for part of Queensland’s 150th Birthday, it travelled all around Queensland, was a lovely sight.

    Oh, Trudi!!!!! Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful image!!! And I love your story … bless you and your Daddy!!!! I have a story similar about my own dad … the railroad was in the very blood of my father’s family … one of my first memories is sitting by the tracks near my home town at a VERY sharp curve … at night … and when the big metal beasts came roaring around that corner … STRAIGHT AT ME … the shrieks of fear and joy … and my daddy’s laughter. You’ve brought back a good one!!!!!! Thank you!!!!! And congratulations on your well deserved features!!!!!!!
