Winter Nap
During the winter in north Idaho redpolls migrate down from Canada. These two were part of a group that spent the winter at the bird feeder in our backyard. They preferred napping on the ground in places somewhat dry and sheltered. Further north they like to sleep in snow tunnels that keep out the cold wind. The original is painted in water mixable oils on 16”x20” canvas.
Winter Nap belongs to the following groups:
* Painted Nature * Available for sale asGreeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints and Framed Prints

This is soooo beautifu! The colors, the composition and the detail are amazing!
What medium have you used here?
Leslie Hengen replied
Thank you Joanne for your comment, seems everyone is interested in this for some reason. I painted it with watermixable oils on canvas. Sometimes these oils cure out equal, sometimes dull or glossy, they are more unpredictable than regular oils but not as toxic!
Janet Fikar
What an absolutely stunning shot. What kind of post processing di you do on this? I love it.
Leslie Hengen replied
I am not sure what you mean by processing Janet, it is painted on canvas in water mixable oils, I didn’t add any medium or varnish afterwards, is that what you meant? Thank you for your wonderful comments!

Congratulations on your feature in the Featured page, it’s a wonderful image – the light, composition and the details in the birds is beautiful Like the others, I’d also like to know what treatment you gave it.
Leslie Hengen replied
There is no treatment. Its just water mixable oil on canvas, no finish. Thank you for the comment.

Hi Leslie. Yes, I see. It seems that several people saw this work of art as so realistic that they thought it was a photograph that had been modified in Photoshop to appear as a painting. But, PS can’t come close to the real thing here. Your art work is stunning!
Leslie Hengen replied
Thanks again Janet, I couldn’t figure it out at first, now I get it. Sharons Idea is good, all of my artworks are paintings, I should specify that I guess, I hope I didn’t dissapoint anyone!
Manuel Barca

Your work is wonderful…so incredibly realistic, that it seems people thought it was a photo…in your edit page, we would love to see a description of your media as well as the story about the image…as well if you plan to enter challenges, we would need to know that…thanks for joining RB…
Leslie Hengen replied
Thanks again Janis, I don’t know what” enter challenges “mean?
LINDA JONES
just love this piece…beautiful!
Leslie Hengen replied
Thank you Linda!
Janis Zroback
When you add your work to the varioius groups, you will see that most launch challenges on a regular basis…have a look in Watermedia…we have several challenges opening up very soon that you can enter…the winner is usually featured or can win a prize…adding your work to groups also means that you can get a chance to have your work featured and for other artists to get to know you…
Janis Zroback
P.S. if you only use oils in all your paintings, even though they are water micible, they won’t be suitable for the Watermedia group..however, First Things, Landscapes, Birds, Animals, and a ton of other groups are open to you…that being said any work in pastel, coloured pencil, acrylic, waterbased inks, watercolour, will be accepted into Watermedia…but it’s essential to describe the media in the text box next to the painting…your work will be an asset to any group….
