Old part of Lisbon,
situated on one of
“LisbonĀ“s seven hills”.
Many peoples have made their
marks here: Celtic tribes,
Romans, Moors, Conquistadors,
Modern Folk…
The sculpture depicts Prince
Henry the Navigator (1394-1460)
who sent expeditions down
the African coast to establish
trade routes, to defeat Muslims
and to spread Christianity.
He inspired the Great Age of
Discovery and exploitation that
created colonies, East India
companies and slave transports,
endeavours that are founding stones
of European wealth and the
world view of our Western civilization…
