Final version of a 5×4 foot painting… a colorblocked scene from the streets of St Martin, Netherland Antillies in the town of Marigot on the French side. I used a photograph that I took several years ago as inspiration and reference. We love to photowalk in the town in the early morning when the sun is very low and the colors the most intense. The people walking to work and the children gathering for school are as colorful as their surroundings.

Inspirational photo of Lucy’s Snack in Marigot.

Susana – this is a wonderful translation of your photo, so full of energy & colour. I really enjoyed watching it come together in the workshop, & love the colour layers in the underpainting of the clothes It looks spectacular in your kitchen!

Outstanding!! It nearly looks 3 D!! Looove the orange!!

  • Leslie, thank you so very much! “3D” is just the sensation that I felt about that orange wall! It made everyone walking by look different, like they had also become sort of larger than life. I’m so pleased to hear you say that! :))))))

I’ve really enjoyed watching your process and progress, Susana! Wow, doesn’t it look magnificent up there!

  • Mel, thank you so much! Part of me wanted to get that big canvas out of the way in the photo studio! Dave kept saying “… weren’t you going to paint something on this thing?” The workshop came along at the perfect time. I was so tempted to translate your gorgeous image of Jess in that sexy number but that may have been a little much for the kitchen… hahah! Next time… Thanks again!!

Super gorgeous work Susana, totally awesome, I really enjoyed watching your work progress in the workshop…..wow!!!

  • Thank you so much, Kathie. That was an amazing experience… being able to participate in the workshop and seeing all the beautiful work produced. The feeling is mutual… I enjoyed watching your first WIPs of the Picasso inspired piece I’m watching to see how it turns out. Will it be done by the 20th? I ran into a painter’s work in Ohio last year whose faces were so reminiscent of the mask like faces and yet they could easily have been real people that he interpreted. I’ll try to find an example. They were wonderful. Thanks again… fun, fun!!

I love this canvas, Susana. It’s big, bold, beautiful, and balanced. Sure was great watching your creative process, during the Human Figure Workshop. You are a star! Congratulations! Looks fabulous hanging in your space.

  • This was just an inspiring experience, Frannie! The whole process was so affirming and positive… a little scary with some pressure… but what project doesn’t have that. I loved seeing all the wonderful work produced. It’s just amazing. I have recommended RB for years to my artist friends and a few are here… but this is so special. You have a fantastic concept here! Can’t wait to participate again. Thank you so much for your kind comments! :))))))
