I just came across your very fine gallery. This picture struck me first as perhaps a b/w HDR which looked remarkably like a pencil drawing, and now I see that it is indeed a pencil drawing and a remarkable one. I was recently in Bucks County for the first time and of course what’s remarkable about the houses is that most of them are of stone, and so beautifully designed and built. Your wonderful pencil study here does them honor.

  • Peter, thank you so very much for your lovely comments. Bucks County is a beautiful part of the country, indeed. I have a sister who lives there and we went out on a Thanksgiving day some years ago and I started this sketch and took some photos. Later, the sketch turned into this pencil study and I decided to turn it into a winter scene with snow to emphasize the shadows. The grandson of the mason who built the home, built a huge stone fireplace for her and her husband. That’s how I came to know the history. Thanks again for your kind comments. Susana

What’s left of the paper definitely flatters your phenomenal detail/talent! And not one speck over worked… Amazing, amazing, amazing!

  • Yikes! Thank you so much, Steve! I’m speachless… x!

Your attention to detail and everything looks spectacular! :)

  • Thanks so much, Ming! And for taking the time to visit and make such lovely comments. I started this sketch on a Thanksgiving day near where my sister lives in Pennsylvania. When I got home, I decided to make it a winter scene with snow. It was more interesting to me to cover the road with snow than to show the detail there. Now, the eye goes right to the house… instead of wandering all over the picture.
