I was born in the city of Windhoek in Namibia – where my love for open spaces were imprinted. We moved to South Africa in the 80’s and I lived for a number of years in the Free State where I received art training and co-owned an art gallery for a number of years. After this period I lived on the West Coast and got my degree in Horticulture which influenced my paintings greatly. 6 Years ago I moved to Cape Town and have settled here in the nook of the Table Mountain – inspired every day.
I love organic subjects for my paintings, such as botanical and edibles as I am both a horticulturist and artist, my love for growing matter and art had to merge. My philosophy is that in all creativity there’s a perfect equilibrium between light and shadows, new and old, youth and age and indeed positive and negative.
I therefore aim to capture this natural balance in my subjects and catch perfection in little quirky imperfections. Living in Cape Town, South Africa makes finding interesting plants and fruit easy and paintings can vary from miniatures to large canvases. My preferred and main medium is acrylic yet other mediums such as pastels are often added too. Techniques and styles are mood-based and I love using my hands as much as a good brush. The use of color and strokes is a deeply conscious and present experience for me – making art creation an inevitable must in my life.
