Portrait of an Emu

Helen Barnett

East Melbourne, Australia

Artist's Description

Wildlife Park, Great Otway National Park

Emus are generally very aggressive birds and are not keen on human interaction. However this emu came up to the fence as soon as it saw us pass by, and stuck it’s head out towards us – and not to bite us or beg for food, as I first thought. It soon became apparent that what it wanted was a good old neck scratch, and we were more than happy to oblige.
