    Debbie Sanders...

wow – viewed it large to get all the detail – a truly great work.

  • helene ruiz replied

it is a memorial to many loved ones who have now passed to the other side, including symbolic references to them , some photos of others, and some symbolic references to my accident and near death experience as well..some things are hard to verbalize, well for me anyway, but i paint the little things that they symbolize to me..i asked my kids to add me to it when i leave for good as well… then perhaps it wil be done….until then…every few months something new is added to it…yes…large is better but still cant see everything…thnx for looking debbie

Powerful and extraordinary work Helene. I love the emotions and how you have captured the memories through the water. This is exceptional emotive work. I love the composition very much.

  • helene ruiz replied

thnx…anthea….lol…u know the funny thing is i have this continual nightmare of drowning in an unruly ocean…ughhh…my biggest fear of dying i think…anything where i cannot breathe scares the hell outta me lol….

wonderful work helene..and a real project ..well done !! It’s a biggie with those dimensions for sure and much good luck with finishing it.

It’s one of those paintings that may take a lifetime..I understand you completely.
I’m thinking of starting another big one too very soon..and it will never get sold either (well not to any overseas visitors) ..because the board I’m going to work on seems to weigh a ton..hha!!

I think you do amazing work ..you’re a real artist my friend..and all the luck in the world to you .

    BLYTHART

I’d love one day to see a step by step series of one of your paintings. How do you start a painting Helene? Seriously …

  • helene ruiz replied

lol…LMAO…..How do I start?? damn..i never thought about that…i just start the moment i feel compelled to relieve my soul i guess or the moment an idea comes to mind…that can include 18 or more canvas and pieces of wood lined up around the entire apt ane me running around to each one as i feel it…i guess my paintings are my autobiography … who knows….and i usually dont stop till i finish if i do,,,then i never finish…u have no idea how many of my paintings are on top of others that were gessoed and repainted lol

I hear you and agree with you my friend…I too fear drowning as I have been dumped many times by huge waves in the Ocean and that complete loss of freedom when the waves take you over makes me feel very vulnerable. I love my freedom so much too and like you if I feel I cannot breathe I begin to panic. You have captured this unruly ocean beautifully here Helene. Am emotionally moved by your work.

  • helene ruiz replied

    thank u so much anthea

  • helene ruiz replied

and yes…i panic too….scary isnt it…..at least i dont feel so “nutty” and isoloated with my panic about drowning or suffocating…the 2 things i fear the most! peace to u..

Such stories last forever friend! Our journey it but of life and death, too short is life and in death we forget. I understand where you are coming from, its like counting stars some nights you know them all yet on others more appear or dissapear. This story you paint is written within your DNA friend yet to read all its secrets may take many lifetimes! Helene when its finished your soul will shine! this is a magnificent work of art Helene .. i hope you’ll be adding to it for many years to come : ))

  • helene ruiz replied

i add to this each time i lose someone or something i love…be it the passing of a loved one, the loss of time, the loss of ability to do things i used to b4 my accident, it is a memorial to loss so that i may never forget how important they actually were.. when we have things rt there in the palm of our hand, w take them for granted and tend to put off much in assumption of taking care of it another day….when it is gone, we realize how important it was and how much we wish it were back there in the palm of our hands, knowing if it were, this time around we most likely will have more appreciation and respect for it
