This is a song lyric that follows on thematically from my last poem. It’s kind of in answer to your question Craig. :o)
a longing for your arms
layers of silence one after another
peeling the onion – waiting for you
in the stillness of reverie there is only surrender
I open my fist to let you come through
how many times can I come to this water
ask the same question – feel the same pain
and how many times can I come to surrender
and ask that the water will take me again
it’s an old returning – the lesson still to be learned
and in the ache of separation a longing for your arms
a longing for your arms
no other lover could be so familiar
no other lover
could touch me like you
until that moment of total surrender
no other lover will do but you
it’s an old returning – the lesson still to be learned
and in the ache of separation
a longing for your arms
a longing for your arms
a longing for your arms

Thanks for the feedback guys. LOL I know exactly what you mean Craig! For the record I have had a couple of relationships since I wrote this song – nothing that’s lasted though. But hope springs eternal. ;O)

LOL I hear ya Helene ;) I have had one relationship since my ex gf left me over 2 years ago …. that was an online relationship with a beautiful Woman from America. Yeah I know … is that a real relationship? It was for me. I ended it New Years this year. It’s hard to know someone loves you so much (and you them) but need to come to the understanding that you both may never even meet :( I didn’t think it was fair on either of us to be so bound in that way. We are still in love and talk every day, but there is the understanding that we could both meet someone in the physical now.

Helene, so gorgeous. Love the line “in the stillness of reverie there is only surrender”. So powerful. Desire aches in all of us. Whether its a desire for attention, for spirituality, for peace, or for a quench of hunger or thirst. In some of us that desire is so unbearably strong. Your writing tells its so beautifully and dramatically. I agree with the comment that it would be a good companion piece to some of your images. Thank you. To have your talents are one of my desires.

Thanks for your lovely words Pepper – you’re gifted in this form of expression too!

how many times can I come to this water

Simply awestruck by the magnitude of this verse…..

Beyond physical to soul in a sense. The entire poem is very lovely, beautiful and sensitive writing.

what power is contained in those words – layers of silence, as though the secrets of the whole universe were concealed beneath them.
